Gas guage/sending unit adjustment For B Bodies Only

Gas guage/sending unit adjustment For B Bodies Only

From what I have read, most of the aftermarket sending units sold for Mopars actually have OHM's output levels made for GM fuel gauges. There is no adjustment of the fuel gauge possible. I also have a '67 GTX. I am on my second aftermarket sending unit. When I fill up, my gauge reads a little over half full & with a half tank the gauge reads empty.

If this has been answered before please send me to the forum post. My question is this: Is there an aftermarket electronic fuel gauge system that I can put on my 1966 vw bug. Right now of course it is the mechanical but for some reason this thing keep adjusting itself. For example I put a full tank of gas in it and it reads only half a tank.

Fueled by frustration: Fixing faulty fuel gauges Old

Fueled by frustration: Fixing faulty fuel gauges Old

The fuel gauge is one of an automobile’s most important instruments. An accurate gauge helps keep one from running out of fuel, or at least indicates when more is needed. However, some believe that cars generate gas or that someone else will fill the tank. Does that sound familiar? Faulty fuel gauges are a common problem in collector cars.

The gauge will exit the calibration menu and will attempt to display the current fuel level. To calibrate Full condition, follow manual calibration steps 1 & 2: While your fuel tank is full; when the pointer points at ‘F’ press the button. The gauge will exit the calibration menu and will attempt to display the current fuel level.

How to cheaply calibrate Your Fuel Gauge. What normally happens is that even if you fill up the tank to the full the gauge will not point all the way to the full level and by the time the tank is 1/2 full or even 3/4 full the gauge shows empty which can be a bit of pain.

Fuel Gauge Testing The Filling Station

Fuel Gauge Testing The Filling Station

Use a special fuel gauge resistor to protect the original 6 volt fuel gauge that will be running in a 12 volt system. All GM fuel gauges from the early 1930's to the 1960's operate on a 30 ohm scale. At zero ohms from the sending unit, the dash gauge should read Empty; at 30 ohms it should read Full.

 Fuel Gauge Behavior

Fuel Gauge Behavior

Fill up and fuel gauge shows full. Drive 20 30ish miles and already down 7/8 to 6/8 on the needle. When fuel is "low" car will show 40 miles left with the warning. I can only pump about 8 9 gallons before the first click stop. Cycle repeats So obviously, there's gas left in the tank. Lots of it, and the car is reporting wrong.

Help??? icon fuel gauge work with standard fuel tank

Help??? icon fuel gauge work with standard fuel tank

I want to retain my factory fuel tank sender and have the ICON 2" fuel gauge read the tank level off the factory sender (just the way the original gauge worked). Is this possible without emptying the tank and going through the calibration process? (I have connected my red tank wire to the analog fuel tank 1 gauge connection). Thanks for the help!

DIY Adjusting the displayed fuel gauge

DIY Adjusting the displayed fuel gauge

Today I discovered that you can use a VAG COM to adjust the displayed fuel level on the gauge in the instrument cluster. Last year I replaced the fuel level sender on my fuel pump and ever since the indicated fuel level has been off. Specifically, when the fuel tank was filled up completely (pump auto shut off), the gauge wouldn't indicate a full tank.

Symptoms of a Bad or Failing Fuel Gauge Sender

Symptoms of a Bad or Failing Fuel Gauge Sender

The fuel gauge sender is a component that is found in the gas tank of most road going vehicles. The fuel gauge sender, also commonly referred to as the fuel sending unit, is the component responsible for sending the signal that operates the fuel level gauge in the instrument cluster. The fuel sending unit is made up of an arm, float, and a resistor that changes according the position of the float.

Fuel Gauge Calibration (Part 1/4)

Fuel Gauge Calibration (Part 1/4)

  1) Calibrate the FULL position of the fuel gauge needle. Fill the tank with 5.8 gallons of gas. Calibration is done be inserting a resistor in series with the W/Y (white with yellow line) wire on the back of the fuel gauge. A good value to start with would be 5 ohm.
